  67. Once the basic program installation is complete, the CREST program will
  68. automatically load and configure itself. This can be a lengthy process
  69. but only the very first time the program is loaded. Following that, the
  70. program will load much faster.
  71.  
  72. To start the program in the future, you should switch to the subdirectory
  73. where you installed the program (i.e. \CREST), type DIARY, and then press
  74. [ENTER].  If the program has not been registered, a shareware and
  75. registration reminder screen will appear.  After reading this screen
  76. carefully, press any key to proceed. A title and copyright screen will be
  77. displayed, along with the program Main Menu.

  80. product release version number) for information regarding new program
  81. changes, features, and enhancements.

  84. QUICK START
  85. -----------
  86. In order to make FULL use of this program, you will need to read the
  87. manual, which is supplied as the file MANUAL.TXT.  However, to get
  88. started quickly just to see what the program looks like, simply switch to
  89. the subdirectory where you have installed the program files (i.e. CD
  90. CREST), type DIARY and press [ENTER].  The program contains
  91. context-sensitive Help which you can call by pressing the [F1] key.

  94. COLOR/MONOCHROME MONITORS
  95. -------------------------
  96. This program will check to see if you have a color video card installed
  97. in your computer. If it finds one, it will automatically set the screen
  98. display to the color settings. If it finds a monochrome video card, it
  99. will automatically set the screen display to the monochrome settings. If
  100. you are using a color card with a monochrome monitor, the program may not
  101. display properly. However, you can go back to the DOS prompt and restart
  102. the program using the command  ROUTE M  to restart the program in forced
  103. monochrome mode.

  106. USER'S MANUAL & ORDER FORM
  107. ---------------------------------
  108. To View or Print the order form, move to the far right, select the
  109. UTILITIES menu and press [ENTER]. Then using the Down Arrow key, select
  110. the "Order Form" option and press [ENTER].  You will be able to view the
  111. order form before you print it.

  113. The User's Manual is included in a file called MANUAL.TXT.  It can also
  114. be printed either from the menu option, or from the DOS command line. To
  115. print it from the DOS command line, change to the directory in which
  116. MANUAL.TXT resides. Then enter the following command to print the manual:

  120. To View or Print the manual from within the program, move to the far
  121. right, select the UTILITIES menu and press [ENTER]. Then using the Down
  122. Arrow key, select the "User's Manual" option and press [ENTER].  You will
  123. be able to view the manual on screen before you print it.

  209. Car Restoration Diary (CREST) is provided with an installation utility,
  210. which will not only install the program for you, but will also test your
  211. system for the necessary hard drive space, minimum DOS version, and
  212. necessary settings in your CONFIG.SYS file.

  214. The program will install the CREST program to your hard disk drive, and
  215. will provide you with a default subdirectory name (\CREST). We recommend
  216. that you use this default directory name, but you are free to change it.
  217.  
  218. The install program will also check your CONFIG.SYS file for necessary
  219. parameters, and will update those settings for you if necessary (if you
  220. don't want the program to make these changes for you, just select "N" and
  221. you can modify them manually).

  223. If any changes are made to your CONFIG.SYS file, your system must be
  224. rebooted in order for the changes to take effect.

  226. When the installation is complete, the CREST program will automatically
  227. load and configure itself.
